Description: |
In 1996, a small group of Carillon men asked for space in the new clubhouse building to be used for a woodshop. The shop was equipped with basic power and hand tools. The men were all beginners and so relied upon each other for support. The club has flourished in membership and expansion of shop equipment. Now we are a modern, complete shop and one of the finest senior facilities in Chicagoland.
Projects that the men and women members build could be for their own homes, family or donated for sale at our October Craft Show. The shop teams up to build a special piece for auction at the show. We also do some repair work and custom pieces for Carillon residents who then will make a donation to the shop. This is how we are able to cover costs for supplies, repairs and new machinery
On your first visit, you will be greeted by a shop monitor and given an introductory tour of the shop. From then on, the monitor or any member will be happy to help you.
The system still works with newcomers learning from others. Please visit the shop, have a cup of coffee, meet the instructors, and look at the picture board of some of the amazing work by "amateurs". It is always pleasant to experience the fresh smell of sawdust! Dues apply.
