COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

In the event of a major disaster such as a major storm, tornado, terrorist attack or even earthquake, the professional responders like the Police, Fire Department, Paramedics, etc. can be completely overwhelmed and could take hours or even days to get to everyone. CERT is a nationwide program to help when the professionals are not able too.

The Carillon CERT Team personnel have the training to inspect for building damage, do basic search and rescue, do first-aid, set up medical treatment areas, and put out small fires. Our purpose is to help as many people as possible. No one goes into heavily damaged buildings that are unstable where they could become a victim. All of the conditions are documented and reported to the Command Post so the Command Post Personnel can assign personnel to help where it is needed the most.

The Carillon CERT program is set-up for our members to go to cover during a Tornado Warning event. After it is safe, they make sure their family and house are safe. Then inspect their neighborhood and report to the Command Post.

The more trained people in each Association, the quicker all can investigate and report. That means the quicker help gets to Carillon residents.

With this overview, some will see the benefits of the program and want to help.

The training includes Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety and Utility Control, Disaster Medical Operations Part 1 and Part 2, Light Search and Rescue Operations, CERT Organization, Disaster Psychology, Terrorism and CERT, Course Review and Disaster simulation. The training is not very detailed or difficult and can be completed in one or two weekends.
